AUWE Impact Interview:
Strengthening Spain–Australia Wind Sector Collaboration

At Australia Wind Energy 2025, Mr. Daniel Valiente Fernández, Sector Lead and Market Analyst at the Economic and Trade Commission of Spain in Australia, shared insights on Spain’s role in supporting Australia’s wind energy growth. He highlighted Spain’s broad capabilities in wind technology and services, and emphasized the potential for collaboration in addressing Australia’s renewable energy challenges through knowledge sharing and workforce development.

Executive Summary

1. Highlighting Spain’s Expertise Across the Value Chain

While Spanish companies are globally recognised in renewables, Mr. Valiente noted that many Australian stakeholders were still unfamiliar with the breadth of solutions Spain offers. The Pavilion created a platform to present a more complete picture of Spanish capabilities, from engineering and manufacturing to consulting and development.

2. Delivering End-to-End Technical Solutions

Spain’s wind sector has matured across both onshore and offshore markets, offering technical know-how that can complement Australia’s growing project pipeline. Mr. Valiente noted that Spanish companies are ready to contribute in areas such as grid integration, O&M, and project execution, where their experience aligns with emerging local needs.

3. Sharing Talent and Building Skills

With workforce capacity a key challenge in Australia’s energy transition, Mr. Valiente pointed to opportunities for collaboration in training and knowledge exchange. Spain’s strong academic institutions and skilled professionals could play a role in supporting local talent pipelines, particularly as the sector scales.

4. A Foundation for Long-Term Engagement

Looking ahead, Mr. Valiente expressed optimism about continued collaboration between the two countries’ wind sectors. “We have a lot of expertise, a lot of talent that might accelerate the future of offshore and onshore wind in Australia,” he said—underscoring a shared commitment to long-term renewable energy growth.
